Who Are We?
ScionHealth is a national healthcare system of 94 hospital campuses (76 specialty hospitals and 18 community hospital campuses and associated health systems) and eight senior living communities that delivers outstanding care by supporting those who care most. With a team of approximately 25,000 dedicated and compassionate healthcare professionals, we put our caregivers at the forefront of everything we do and every choice we make.
Long-Term Acute Care Hospitals
Our hospitals, certified as long-term acute care hospitals, offer the same in-depth care patients would receive in a traditional hospital or intensive care unit, but for an extended recovery period. Between Kindred Hospitals, Cornerstone Specialty Hospitals, and Solara Specialty Hospitals, we have 76 facilities across the country where we can provide specialized care for our patients with serious medical conditions who require extended recovery time.
Our patients might be referred to us if they:
- Are dependent upon a ventilator or other technology for regular breathing
- Have medically complex conditions such as pulmonary disease, neurological deficits, cardiac disease, renal (kidney) failure requiring dialysis, wound care, infectious diseases or complications following surgery
- Have simultaneous chronic conditions or multi-system organ failure with significant loss of independence
- Need extended care or recovery time after a traditional hospital stay
Our goal is to help our patients efficiently transition to the next step of their treatment plan to regain their independence through specialized care.

Subacute Care
Subacute care is specially designed to provide short-term rehabilitation to help our patients recover from an injury or illness, or to provide the compassionate care you need when facing multiple medical problems or illnesses for a longer period of time.
Our subacute units are unique because they are located within our hospitals, ensuring that our patients have access to the clinical services and rehabilitation they need seven days a week. The focus is on their physical and functional improvement and independence. Our team of experts works with our patients to restore health and help achieve maximum independence in their daily activities.
We begin planning for the patients next steps upon admission, focusing on their individualized goals and desired outcomes. Our team provides education to both our patients and their loved ones on how to successfully manage a daily routine after they leave our care.

Acute Rehab Units
Our Acute Rehabilitation Units (ARUs) are specially designed units within our long-term acute care hospitals for people who have experienced the debilitating effects of an acute injury, impairment, or illness. The goal is to help each individual function as independently as possible through specialized treatment programs for conditions including stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, orthopedic injury, neurological conditions, amputation, and trauma.
Kindred Hospital ARUs feature newly constructed patient rooms, a gym offering the latest in rehabilitation equipment and technology, and designated rooms for activities and dining.
Each patient room provides the amenities one would expect at home, including wireless internet access, cable television, private bathrooms, and guest recliners. These clean, cozy settings allow patients to get the rest they need before and after rehab therapy sessions.

Specialty Hospitals
We operate 76 long-term post-acute care hospitals (or LTACHs) in 28 states under the name Kindred Hospitals, a premiere network of specialty hospitals for more than 35 years. At these facilities, interdisciplinary, physician-led teams deliver quality-driven hospital-based care for the most vulnerable, clinically-complex and post-intensive patient populations. Our LTACHs offer the same in-depth care patients would receive in a traditional hospital's intensive care unit, but for an extended period of time needed for recovery.
