Job Summary

The Uncertified Pharmacy Technician is responsible for assisting pharmacists in the preparation, distribution, and documentation of medications under direct supervision. This role includes maintaining accurate patient records, restocking medication bins, and supporting inventory management in compliance with departmental policies.

Essential Functions

  • Assist pharmacists in preparing medications for dispensing, including counting, labeling, and packaging prescriptions.
  • Enter patient and medication information accurately into the pharmacy information system.
  • Maintain inventory of medications and supplies, notifying the pharmacist of low stock levels.
  • Restock automated dispensing machines and patient medication bins as directed.
  • Provide basic customer service by answering phones and processing refill requests.
  • Adhere to infection control guidelines, including cleaning and organizing work areas.
  • Assist in maintaining controlled substance records under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
  • Participate in training and development opportunities to expand pharmacy knowledge.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising pharmacist or pharmacy manager.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations

  • Basic knowledge of pharmaceutical terminology and medication handling.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in medication preparation and data entry.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work under direct supervision.
  • Basic computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Effective communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 pounds.

Qualifications

Education

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent or be at least 16 yrs of age and actively working toward one (which includes students in dual-enrollment programs).
  • Completion of a pharmacy technician training program preferred

Licenses/Certifications

  • Active state registration as a Pharmacy Technician (or Pharmacy Technician-in-Training, where applicable) required in accordance with state regulations

Experience

  • 6 months of pharmacy experience in a retail or hospital setting preferred
