Job Summary

  • The Laboratory Point of Care Coordinator is responsible for coordinating all Point of Care (POC) testing throughout the hospital, including clinics and multiple departments. This role provides technical support, training, and oversight to staff performing POC testing, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards and quality control measures. The Coordinator monitors POC equipment, conducts competency assessments, manages proficiency testing, and assists with regulatory inspections to maintain compliance.

Essential Functions

  • Provide technical oversight of POC testing across various departments to meet accreditation standards
  • Monitor POC test systems for functionality, troubleshoot equipment, and take corrective action as needed
  • Develop and maintain training materials and coordinate staff training on POC procedures
  • Conduct competency assessments and provide feedback to staff on POC testing proficiency
  • Participate in inspection readiness and tracer activities to ensure regulatory compliance
  • Develop, maintain, and update POC testing policies, procedures, and documentation
  • Review and validate quality control data, proficiency testing (PT) results, and implement corrective actions for failures
  • Monitor middleware and software systems for POC testing and coordinate error resolution
  • Assist in the implementation of new POC testing analyzers, including validation and verification studies
  • Perform duties of a Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Technician as required
  • Maintain communication with the Laboratory Director regarding testing performance and quality metrics

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations

  • Strong understanding of laboratory testing protocols and regulatory requirements (CAP, CLIA, FDA)
  • Excellent communication and training skills for educating staff on POC procedures
  • Proficiency in data management, quality control analysis, and documentation
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities to coordinate multiple POC testing sites
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Laboratory Information Systems (LIS)
  • Ability to travel between multiple testing sites and work flexible hours as needed

Qualifications

Education

  • Associate’s degree in Laboratory Science, or a related chemical, physical, or biological science required
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

Licenses/Certifications

  • ASCP or AMT certification or eligibility preferred

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical laboratory experience in POC testing, quality control, or laboratory operations preferred
  • Experience in regulatory compliance and inspection readiness preferred
