Job Summary

The Student Nursing Assistant is responsible for providing basic patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. This role assists in monitoring vital signs, personal care, activities of daily living, and maintaining a clean and orderly patient environment. The Student Nursing Assistant serves as a vital support to the nursing team, contributing to quality patient care while gaining practical experience in an acute care hospital setting.

Essential Functions

  • Assist patients with personal care activities, including bathing, grooming, feeding, and ambulation.
  • Monitor and document vital signs, including blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, and respiratory rate.
  • Report abnormal findings or changes in patient conditions to the nursing staff promptly.
  • Assist with measuring and recording intake and output (I&O).
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of patient rooms and common areas, ensuring a safe environment.
  • Assist in restocking patient care supplies and maintaining supply levels as directed.
  • Support patient mobility and assist with transferring patients as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff, ensuring patient comfort and confidentiality.
  • Provide emotional support to patients and families while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising RN or charge nurse.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic knowledge of patient care procedures and medical terminology.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills.
  • Ability to follow directions and work under supervision.
  • Demonstrates compassion, empathy, and respect for patients and families.

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Completion of the first semester of a Nursing Program required.

Licenses/Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 30 days of hire.
